Ben, I saw this article (Hating the World Cup) which was in The New World this week...
...it made me chuckle all the way through, (accurately) quoting philosophical epithets from characters in the beautiful game from Bill Shankley and Brian Clough, right through to Eric Cantona, Albert Camus and Jorge Luis Borges!!
I know you will find the quotes amusing ("when the seagulls follow the trawler...") but Nigel Warburton (who writes a weekly column on topical issues, as they relate to philosophy) makes some serious points/predictions about the World Cup, which we might all find salutary.
I'm afraid I can't quite bring into my mind your attitude to football, Ben - I have a vague recollection of you sitting with me watching Match of the Day during one of the lockdowns, but it may be my imagination...

We are well on the way to Wake 5 on Saturday - I have passed on some of your clothes, and will have things available for people to browse over the weekend to see if I can pass on some more. Looking at the World Cup schedule, I might manage to see the end of Brazil-Morocco, scheduled to start at 11 pm on Saturday... ))
