Grenfell Enquiry...'honour the memory'...
[Ed: Ben and I talked quite a bit about
Grenfell: he could see the tower from his balcony in Kilburn; and when
the fire happened, both he and Tom lived in 'high rise' blocks in
London...]
I have listened to a lot of the Grenfell Tower Enquiry podcasts on the BBC, and just
now listened to the last one: number 204. A young man who lived on
the 13th floor of Grenfell, and who got out quickly on the night, talked
about how, after several years of therapy for PTSD and many other things,
including 'survivor guilt', he went back to studying Physics (he had been
in Year 2 at Kings College) got his Masters and is now studying for a
PhD. He said that he hoped that, through the support of 'friends,
family and loved ones around me', and now doing what he had wanted to do
before the fire, he would like to hope that he is honouring the memory of
those who are no longer with us.
I hope that that is what I am doing for Ben: honouring his memory by
carrying on with my life: changed but still following my dreams, which is
the way he lived his life.
[Ed: I hope that Morelia will forgive me for adding this: she sent it
to me a couple of days ago:]
