Kilburn revisited
[Jess send these emails and photos...]
It was tipping it down yesterday so I went over to Kilburn today instead.
Sad to report that the rune graffiti has been scrubbed off the inside of
the lift at Ryde house. You can just about make out the outline of where
it once was below (it used to be painted in white):
I ended up wandering about inside the block and the surrounding areas and
took some pictures on my camera - they're in this folder if you wanted to
see: [Kilburn
revisited] (I'm sure you'll recognise lots of it!) It was strange to
walk around a place that was home for a while but it brought up some
lovely memories.
Sending lots of love,
xxx Jess
Really good photos, Jess!! You compose them
really interestingly, and make grotty, dirty Kilburn actually look bright
and colourful and attractive...but also, as you said, heart-wrenching,
especially the two of those top floor balconies...
Thank you Jess - I really appreciate them: do you think others who visited
Ben in Kilburn would have the same reaction? (I.e. shall I BenWeb
them?)

Happy for you to add to BenWeb if you think
others might be interested. Your comment about making grotty Kilburn look
bright and attractive sort of mirrors how living there with Ben made me
see it. It was (and still is) very dirty and rather smelly but Bens
affection for the place rubbed off on me. I felt a good deal of fondness
for it wandering about yesterday, especially going up in the lift and
seeing the old front door - heartbreaking though it was…
